Chiropractic Philosophy

In modern medicine, health is not merely the absence of any symptoms of disease. Absence of any symptoms does not necessarily mean that there is no disease process in the body. Therefore, maintaining an optimal health, regardless of symptomatic condition, is now the new standard of health. Our body's natural ability to maintain health and heal itself is one of the very important aspects of chiropractic. If we catch a cold, our body activates the immune response in order to deal with the viral intruder and any types of physical damage is met with inflammatory and scar tissue formation and repair mechanisms. Therefore, it is extremely important to maintain proper function and health of the spinal nerves which relay these autonomic information from your brain to the rest of the body. Especially, the spinal alignment maintained by the relationship of the vertebrae and the disc is extremely important to the protection and function of the nerves which they protect.

Origin of Chiropractic

The word Chiropractic comes from the Greek word "Chiros" which means hand and "Praktos" which means to heal. Combining the two words gave the birth of the word Chiropractic which means in more detail, to treat without surgery and/or medication.

Chiropractic History

Chiropractic was first discovered by Dr. David D. Palmer in 1895. Since then, the profession has established educational and experimental resource gaining increasing credibility across 60 countries for the past 25 years. Following in the footsteps of Hypocrates, the father of medicine, the relationship between the health of the spine and the disease process have been scientifically researched by Dr. B.J Palmer who bridged the gap between the existence of innate and universal intelligence with the body's ability to maintain health and create healing process.

Chiropractic Definition

D.D Palmer - Chiropractic is to fix the root cause of a disease by finding the vertebra or any other 300 bodily joints that is misaligned (Subluxation) and removing the pressure on the nerve which causes reduced function of that nerve by adjusting that vertebra back into proper alignment by hand.

Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic treatment is a natural way of healing without the use of drug or surgery. It is very conservative and natural approach to health with looking at a person as a whole. We focus on prevention and maintenance via proper nutrition, exercise and spinal hygiene to promote a healthy balance between skeletal, muscular and neurological structures. Chiropractic is also analyses potential problems arising from biomechanical stress to the body which can produce neurological, physical and functional disabilities. The examining tools include X-ray analysis among other modern examining tools along with tools that are specially designed for chiropractic analysis. As mentioned previously,a doctor of chiropractic properly align a misaligned segment of the vertebral column via the process called an adjustment. With a spinal adjustment pressure is relieved on the spinal nerves and the pain symptoms naturally dissipate with proper alignment. Furthermore, properly functioning spinal nerves promote optimal function of the organs which it innervates. Chiropractic directly stimulate the nerves of the joint and the muscle; therefore, it also influences the central and peripheral nerve systems so that our body can function properly. Furthermore, along with spinal adjustment, adjunctive therapies such as exercise, physical and other manipulative therapies are administered to accelerate the healing process.

Doctor of Chiropractic

The doctor of chiropractic is a doctor who has a specialty license in treating the spine. During course of the study, a doctor of chiropractic goes through 6 years of dissection, pathology, physiology, biomechanics, radiology, physical therapy, and etc. for the sum of 4500 hours of lectures and then successfully pass 4 levels of national licensure in the United States. Currently, there are about 60,000 licensed chiropractors in the United States. Only those doctors who are specially educated in the field of musculoskeletal disease may properly diagnose and treat spinal related problems most safely and effectively,

1) Promote natural healing by hand

The word Chiropractic comes from the Greek word "Chiros" which means hand and "Praktos" which means to heal. Combining the two words gave the birth of the word Chiropractic which means in more detail, to treat without surgery and/or medication. The most important aspect of chiropractic is the chiropractic adjustment. It is done by hand and it is to reposition a misaligned vertebra back in to a proper alignment.

2) Innate intelligence to heal.

Our body's cells and organ systems are naturally designed to maintain optimal health; therefore, our health depends largely on the body's natural ability to heal itself. Without our knowledge, if there is a physical damage or attack from a foreign body on our system, the body reacts via autoimmune response. These are only few of examples of our natural ability to maintain health and heal damaged areas. By understanding this mechanism of the body, chiropractic focuses on the relationship of the nerve system and the spinal structures which it helps to protect.

3) Chiropractic does not use drugs or surgery

Chiropractor may use X-ray analysis or any other modern examination tools to evaluate spinal alignment. However, there are also many other examining mechanisms which are specific to chiropractic. By adjusting a misaligned vertebra into proper alignment, many of the symptoms may subside due to release of pressure on the respective spinal nerves. Furthermore, rehabilitative exercises and adjunctive therapies help accelerate healing time and effectiveness of the treatment. We always emphasize on proper spinal hygiene and posture so that our patients can improve their current conditions and also avoid future problems. Chiropractic treatment is not only effective in treating current injuries, but it also preventive and proactive to maintain a healthier lifestyle without the use of drugs or surgery.

4) Chiropractic is Science

Chiropractic is not simply putting the bone back into its place. Although it may sound simple, there is a distinct and complex relationship between spinal alignment and function of the nerve system. Chiropractic adjustments directly and indirectly affect the activity of the nerves in the spinal joint and the surrounding tissues. Only when this balance is properly activated and maintained, our body can function at an optimal level.
